Notes from the gambling underground

1)
The eagles need to hire a private investigator to find out if David Akers was point shaving. He misses a 45 yard kick, ok that's fine.  He misses an extra point without slipping, hmmm.  He boots his first kick off of the year out of bounds.  Kickers have a major say in over/unders and point spreads.  Now the final score may indicate that his blunders did not cost the eagles the game nor effect the total in any significant direction, but it needs to be discussed.  In addition after kicking the ball out of bounds he walked to the sideline, not angry, just head down, with andy reid yelling at him.  He didn't look up or at Reid, just straight to the bench.  Raised a red flag for me.

2)
Ohio State - Illinois.  All I can say is this is why the casual bettor should never engage in over/unders.  It will cause you pain and suffering.  Needing just 5 points in the final 3 minutes of the game the buckeyes and Illini managed zero, to keep the game under last night.  That's right they scored zero points in the final 2:47.  Do yourself a favor and keep that in mind for every game you'll ever watch again and see if that repeats itself.

3)
Willis McGahee gets nailed.  Big hit, lights out, cart on the field.  Nobody brought up the fact it was an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit?  That's 15 yards.  Baltimore should have kept the ball and had a chance to score and cover.  Let's put it this way, if it had been Ben Roethlisburger scrambling around like a harley davidson riding a-hole and got popped by ed reed, the pittsburgh fans would have gotten their flag.  The referring in the playoffs has been awful.

True. But, 2 points. Most of the helmet-to-helmets haven't been flagged but only later fined this year.

And the question came up on ESPN but the ruling has been that McGahee altered his trajectory after being hit by the other guy and that it would have clearly been a hit to his shoulder otherwise.
